Back from Blog Sabbatical…

August 9, 2007

I promised to myself that I will toil hard with my preparation ,  crack GMAT and then go for vacation to the Caribbean beach enjoying conch salad with “NIRVANA” brand of clothing on me (yeah naked ) while preparing for the essays. Promises are meant to broken; at least women always blame men for this. I’m no exception.

I’m still in my first minus 2 (not even first) stage of pursuing MBA……. I’m Getting Mentally Aware of Test GMAT……

Hey blog, you will not ask me where I was these days….will you?  I know you are not like girls who are God made AQM (Automatic Questioning Machine) .

As the saying goes picture can speak 1000 words …….

Sample1

All these days , I was cleaning up S##T load of work that was bombared on me by my project.

PS :  1. Ladies, I’m a true libber (no pun intended).

2. I saw this picture a year back while browsing and saved it . Don’t remember the site .Thanks for sharing. I hope no copyright issue will pop up.

Serendipity

April 3, 2007

Does serendipity always result in rejoice?

Incident One: On Friday evening, I invited my friend to dinner at 7pm and he stays at a distance of 2hr drive in car from my home.  It was already 8pm and there was no sign of him. I called on his mobile to find out that he got struck in traffic jam. He reached home at 9pm. I’m sure people in Toronto must have experienced the pinch of Friday traffic on Highway 400 (Thank god we are blessed with Highway 407). I asked my friend empathetically that whether it was accident or road maintenance that caused the traffic jam. He conveyed that there were signs of neither accident nor maintenance.  After he left I was practicing questions from 1000 CR  and desperately wanted a break. I started browsing about traffic jams and solutions (see how CR is helping me !!!)  . I came across eye opener information (very interesting read for daily commuters). Probably my friend was victim of this situation.

Incident Two:  I was in Wal Mart this week and old lady in front of me was paying through her debit card. She said to the cashier, “In this new millennium you don’t even know who stole your money ” and she covered the keypad with one hand while typing her PIN number. The question kept ringing in my mind. I wanted to know how the PIN number concept works and whether PIN number can be hacked while the data is transferred through internet (this old article has shocking answer).

PS: These incidents are serendipity in my context and may not be same for you (may be its known information for you)

Is GMAT Lady Luck with me….!!!!!!

March 14, 2007

If every successful man eavesdrop his peers (who missed the boat), the comments will be “He must be lucky chap”, “Lady luck is always with him”, “He is fortunate guy” etc.

As defined in book “ Monk who sold his Ferrari” Luck is marriage of Opportunity and Preparation.
Is this definition really enlightening us?

Lets take a case …watch the video ….How much Lady Luck favors Bill Gate:

Opportunity: IBM on hunt for OS to compete Apple.

Gary Kildall: He was having CP/M OS (he was prepared). Although IBM was at his door (Opportunity knocking the door), not able to materialize the opportunity. He was not lucky to become world’s richest man, as Marriage b/w Opportunity and Preparation didn’t happen.

Tim Patterson: He was having OS almost similar to CP/M (he was prepared). Microsoft gave an opportunity by offering 50K dollars for his four-month work. He missed full support of Lady Luck as IBM not offered the opportunity (or he has not grabbed the opportunity).

Bill Gates: He was unprepared but offered the opportunity and he won the Jackpot.

In crux, Opportunity outscores preparation in case of startups. Most of the startups have projects even before their first employee is recruited. For startups, Entrepreneur must have Eagle view to capture the opportunity (Vision). Preparation (Operations) comes next in their priority list.

In case of GMAT, every human being ready to pay GMAT fee has an opportunity to score 800. Without preparation opportunity will be not be worth a penny. Hence preparation is must (Wow!!! That conclusion is really out of box )

Now I’m getting in shoes of Management consultants(case study and out of box conclusion).

750 in GMAT vs 750 in Circuit

February 26, 2007

My Colleague said that the circuit has 60V and needs current of 80mA to trigger the output. I turned to my calculator to calculate the resistor value. I realized that calculator is not allowed in GMAT and my memory on multiplication table is totally rusted (Calculator is rust enhancer). I know that I’m not the only injured solider in the war.

As one of the six sigma rules says “First Identify the problem, accept it and then find solution”. The problem ……

A techy is asked to give a GMAT on the spot in his cubical with same setup available for his daily work routine except his mobile/cell phone is switched off.

Our techy Hero/zero of the clip: Her0

Her0 Company’s internet browsing policy:
The words “SEX, GMAT, POKER, GRE, PORN, TOFEL” are blocked by firewall.

AWA section:
Her0 starts the section by reading the question. Opens a Microsoft word and starts typing the essays confidently as he already got couple of blogs under his name and viewers count touching the amount of salary he earns per month (not bad…).

While writings essays, he also browses in order to add flavor to his essays by providing proper example and links. Her0 is not bothered to proof read the essays and corrects all the red marks and green marks in MS word. He copies the content of the MS word into the screen provided by GMAT test and presses complete button.

BREAK: He goes for Tea break with his friends where he brags about his essay writing (blogging) capabilities and BR rating (similar to PR rating of TV programs).

Quantitative Ability Test:
Her0 gets rejuvenate by the term Quans and feels that maths is cake walk for him. Friends call him geek. Relatives tell that he started counting his toys at the age of two albeit he had not shared the toys with anyone.

Her0 starts the sections with ease and uses calculator to crack the questions. He finds difficulty in solving few Data sufficiency problem. He turns around to ask for help but refrains becuase the colleague (hot babe) next to him is over phone scolding her BF for not being intelligent like Edi…..Edison (nick name of Her0) . Her0 also uses internet to grab few formulae.

BREAK: Pumps his fist in the air (as if he resolved the Twin Paradox Theory).Her0 checks his mails and replies none.

Verbal Ability Test:

Her0 uses Wordweb to cover up the vocabulary disability. He is strong believer of rational thinking and member in thinking communities in Orkut. His boss always appreciates him for his algorithms (copied from internet). He attempts most of the CR with great confidence.

Even with the help of internet Her0 finds it difficult to crack RC and SC. By the end of the section Her0 starts feeling sweat droplets rolling down the forehead (even though Office has centralized AC).

Now the final moment where screen says press OK for viewing score. Her0 remembers the words of his GF…. “I will start dating with other guy if you score less than 750″. He thinks of his GF once and presses the OK button.

” SORRY!!
SOFTWARE GOT CORRUPTED. IT MAY BE DUE TO VIRUS, SPYWARE OR PIRATED VERSION OF WINDOWS. CONTACT NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR”

Her0 realizes that he took 6 hrs for completing the Test.

PS: For my friends from non-electronic background, the resistor value is 750 ohms for 60V and 80mA (60V/80mA).

BluePrint

February 12, 2007

I thought of starting the GMAT prep with one Mock test but I was away from studies for almost “rainbow colors” years. I’m sure my brain is left with only iota of efficiency in terms of Quans and verbal skills with respect to time constraints.

My excursion to MBA begins with sketching a blueprint.

Here is my blueprint for pillaging GMAT (or getting beheaded)

Practice the art of war: 2hrs daily and 4hrs on weekend
Total strength required: 4 Masqueraders (4 Months)

Masquerader1:
- Get closer to GMAT by using weapons: Princeton Review, Manhattan SC and OG11
- Gather information from SST (Special Spy Team): scoretop.com and testmagic.com

Masquerader2:
- Judge the Military capability of GMAT by giving atleast 3 GMAT Mock tests.
- Increase the stamina using 1000 series.
- Practice again Manhattan SC and OG11.
- Keep in touch with SST for more info.

Masquerader3:
- Plan according to inputs from Masquerader 1 and 2

Masquerader4:
- Only mock tests and revisiting lesson learnt by Masquerader 1, 2 and 3

Any comments Pirates on board and specially pirates who already made it to Treasure?

Preamble

February 8, 2007

Who is John Galt? Let me begin with the oath that John Galt (in “ATLAS SHRUGGED”) pronounced to change the world “I swear by my Life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man,nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine”.

This sphere will give glimpse of my excursion to MBA and of my view on current affairs. I believe that blogging will help me acquire new acquaitances in this “milkyway” and reexamine the life ( Yes, Socrates I agree “The unexamined life is not worth living”).

Welcome to Neverland of Chanakaya!!!
